Hot Mulled Apple Cider …Bourbon Optional~
We love a good spiced cider this time of year. It says all things cozy and makes your home feel + smell holiday-esque even if you’re not ready to deck-the-halls! The recipe below is typically more of a wing-it thing for us, so feel free to adjust to your taste. We tend not to use grated spices as they add an odd texture but do as you will. Also bourbon adds a nice warming layer if you’re fireside in the evening, or for me library-side with a good book. Cheers!
- 1 gallon fresh apple cider
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tbsp whole cloves
- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
- 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
- 1-2 star anise pods
- 4 whole black peppercorns
Add the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange slices, lemon slices, star anise, and peppercorns to a large saucepan.
Bring to boil then immediately lower heat + simmer for 10-15 minutes. Taste and adjust amounts of spices as desired, then strain solids from pan. Add the optional bourbon to remaining mix if using. Serve warm in mugs with a cinnamon stick. Refrigerate any leftovers, reheating with more cider if too concentrated.

Serve yours in a wicker tray with a whisper of plaid for an added layer of holiday vibes. The Sound of Music movie goes well with this if you're looking to turn up the notch a bit.
Happy almost holidays! Hope we see you next week on our Watch + Shop LIVE shows. Now every Tues, Wed + Thurs @ 5PM/PT
